Hello and welcome. This is an article that is GREATLY needed. At the very least I think it is. I began wearing makeup around age of 14 so when I began, it was actually an unacceptable shade for my skin tone. So! I am just looking to speak out for all of the Beautiful, Brown-Skinned Black Women who have as hard an occasion finding makeup as I do. So, let me provide you with a little background on me.
To begin with, Black is beautiful, as well as the darker the berry the sweeter the juice! With that being said, at 14 I found myself a little bit blackberry without a clue. Initially when i first started wearing make-up it was just lipstick plus it started off being my mom’s Fashion Fair. My mother that is light-skinned and possesses a daughter who seems to be dark-skinned. Naturally her lipstick failed to match in any way. I used to be even known as dark-skinned Ronald McDonald with a previous ex-boyfriend!
So, In my opinion that us brown-skinned and dark-skinned women need some extra help because it is harder for us to get make-up which matches in drugstores, or makeup for dark skin that may be affordable. Plus Cosmo and Glamour as well as them always be referring to great makeup for spring, but uh, hello would you forget black girls like make-up for spring too? So, I feel your pain. I am a self-appointed make-up aficionado, and would want to offer my experiences and also some items that are FABO and not a great deal fabo. So… without further ado, let’s get moving!
JUST AN FYI: These are all make-ups that I have had to utilize through testing thus i am sharing from EXPERIENCE!
FACE: I find it hard to find a good foundation, and full-coverage make-up that may be affordable so here are a few wonderful finds that we have realized that are both.
1-Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Foundation- Spicy Brown
PROS- it can be efficient at matching skin tones that have yellow or red undertones, spreads easily of course, if you just need moderate coverage will give you an effective value for your money. It is affordable ranging about 6-8 bucks, and you will discover it in most drugstores, and supermarkets.
CONS- When you have dark spots and blemishes, this will NOT offer you the policy you need! Not close, okay? It also wears off quickly so you should reapply often. The bottle is upside-down with some spout, if you pour out a lot of, you can not put it in the bottle and also in these times of financial crisis er’ little bit counts am I right ladies?!
Also, if you have problems matching the skin tone simply because you have BOTH yellow and red, or maybe blue and red undertones, this collection might not be to suit your needs since there is not a vast selection to choose from, so you might must move on. Other shades that are ideal for brown-skinned to dark-skinned gals, and a few of you fellas! Rich Mink, Sheer Espresso, and True Ebony.
2- Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation
PROS-It will provide you with more coverage in comparison to the Liquid Foundation. That’s it. That’s about all I will consider.
CONS-Unfortunately, it rubs off QUITE quickly. Also, it is tinted slightly differently in comparison to the liquid foundation thus i found it harder to fit my complexion. Also, in the event it was warm outside it wipes RIGHT off, and revealed every blemish on my face! LOL, additionally, it wipes off on the clothes, stains the hands, the complete bit. It’s moderately priced as well, so if you want to look nice for any date at night, going somewhere cool, it’s a fast fix, nevertheless i wouldn’t put it on for the club, or a carnival, anywhere that will be warm, or sweaty. It also comes in the same.
3- Black Opal True Color Liquid Foundation – Black Walnut
PROS-Awesome Coverage. There is a reasonably bit from the bottle therefore it will last you a good while. It is an upright standing bottle using a generous opening, so when you pour out too much, it won’t be too difficult to acquire into the bottle, in order to SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! I wear foundation each day, sometimes wash my face and re-apply if hanging out that night, which bottle lasts me about a good 2 months or so. You will find that it ranges from about 8-12 bucks… according to where you reside. So it is an incredible buy.
CONS- If you have combination to oily skin, WEAR POWDER, and maintain it along with you! During these upcoming warm to hot days, you could possibly look really greasy within the face. However, if you continue Blotters along with you, or powders, you need to be okay. Also, it may be that MY skin tone changes, thus if that is the case disregard, nevertheless i find that as i check out buy a replacement, the shade may well not match like the previous one, so be mindful of this.
Another con is the fact that Black Opal Products may be a little harder to find in stores than other products that I mention. I don’t determine if it’s that they’re not too popular, or what, but whenever I look I usually locate them either in Rite-Aid, or CVS. So, happy hunting. Other colors great for brown-skinned girls… Carob, Suede Mocha, and Ebony Brown….. And also for you borderline caramel to brown-skin girls, Hazelnut!
4-Maybelline Pure Makeup (Shine Free Foundation with H2O) – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- Very affordable, simple to find. Situated in Most drugstores, supermarkets, Wal-Mart. Costs range about 5.99-10 bucks, dependant upon your region. Full coverage, doesn’t clog your pores, spreads easily.
CONS-Upside-down tube, so you will have to be exact regarding how much is necessary for your personal face, cause if you use a lot of… it will get wasted. Limited colors for darker skin tones. They just have THREE shades for girls in our color. Dark 1- Tan, Dark 2- Caramel, and Dark 3-Cocoa. We have used the Cocoa. It is too dark for my skin-tone.
However, the Caramel Dark 2 is just too light. So, in case you are pressed for the money and don’t have the money to experiment, I wouldn’t waste my time on this product. They may have FIVE shades focused on light, FOUR for medium and simply three for people darkies??!!! Leave the product alone, except if you afflict match EXACTLY. All the best evading the lady who tries to watch you if you attempt to sample the products inside the store!
5- Black Radiance Color Perfect Oil Free Liquid Make-Up- Cocoa Bean
PROS-Very affordable! VERY! Somewhat accessible. Costs about 5.99-10 bucks, and you could discover it in a lot of Beauty Supply stores, CVS carries it. Spreads evenly, good coverage, get considerably for your personal buck. Also, can be purchased in a jar having an open spout, if you have too much, you are able to put it in there. Offers you a nice matte finish.
CONS- Cocoa Bean is not going to match my skin! However I likewise have strange undertones taking place with my skin, so that could be why it can be so difficult to match. Once you apply this make-up it dries some other color, it’s crazy. There’s this… weird… applicator thingy, unclear what to do with it, however it just became within my way basically. Says it is good for all kinds of skin, however i have very sensitive skin in my face, and that i discovered that within 30 mins my face was suffocating and so i necessary to wash it off. Other shades to try are Brownie and Mocha Honey.
6- L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Make-Up- Nut Brown
PROS-Oh my goodness you guys this makeup was awesome! Spread really, really great! Matches wonderfully for a yellow undertone. Truly does a brown-skinned girl justice. Light, which means that your skin can breathe. Good coverage for females with blemishes. Pretty easy to find, and so i state that with hesitance, because 7 times from 10 they may carry all Although the shades for brown-skinned. Um, I see them at Wal-Mart, Walgreens..and that’s just about it.
CONS- This device has SPF and so i am VERY allergic to sun block therefore it broke me out something terrible. Form of hard to find. It’s a little bit more expensive compared to the previous products mentioned. MMM, I might say about 10.99 and up. You just might find it on sale. Also, there may be not a lot within the bottle, so use sparingly if you can. Other shades to try…. Soft Sable and Cocoa.
7- Revlon Color Stay Make-Up with Soft Flex – Mahogany
PROS- Pretty easy to find in most drugstores. Colors are ideal for brown-skinned girls. Form of affordable. Just a little on the more expensive but about 9.99-12.99 for this product. The coverage is okay… Not the ideal, but should you be looking for light to moderate coverage this is a good product.
CONS- Now, I came across that Mahogany failed to match my undertones that great. I know…. Again with the undertones. It dried and made my skin look just a little grayish and chalky. There exists 58deyypky a real good selection from which to choose for darker skin tones. Has SPF6, damaging to me, but good for everyone who will not be allergic. Also, again, when you don’t hold the undertone problem…. Other shades to try… Cappuccino and Mocha.
And finally but Most certainly not least…
8- Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- OH MY GOSH…… loving this product!! (sing song voice) here is the current comprise I am using now! It def does exactly what the commercial says. It covers your pores, and provide that you simply great finish! Maximum coverage! Need NO concealer, well… maybe slightly, having said that i don’t use any. It is rather affordable, any where from about 7-10 bucks. I discovered it right with the Kroger grocery store, so it should be offered at most drug stores. It has a nifty little nozzle that squirts out and it’s really convenient. It is also whipped feeling, and that i apply with my fingers.
It really glides right on, and begins covering my pores and brown spots, and its particular not too heavy, I don’t have to wear a bunch. The best also comes off, so if I over-squirt, I can put it right back in the bottle. There’s lots inside the bottle, and you don’t have to use a lot for coverage. I feel I bought this bottle monthly ago and i also still have a little bit more than half a bottle left. It’s great! I adore it. Hopefully this could be the final of your road to me, but usually it isn’t!
